FREDERICK, Md. (TCD) -- A 33-year-old father faces child abuse charges after his baby was treated for multiple fractured bones this month.
On July 19, Child Protective Services reported possible child abuse to the Frederick Police Department after a 6-week-old infant was transported to the Frederick Health Hospital and then to the Children’s National Hospital in Washington, D.C., for several fractured bones and other severe injuries.
According to police, detectives conducted interviews with local residents and medical staff and searched the home where the alleged abuse occurred. Police then identified the victim’s father, Keith Lewis, as the primary suspect.
Police located Lewis on Friday, July 21, and booked him into the Frederick County Detention Center on a charge of first- and second-degree child abuse.
Police said Lewis appeared in court for a hearing on Monday, July 24, and his bond was reduced to $10,000.
Officials did not provide an update on the infant’s condition.
