BOULDER CITY, Nev. (TCD) -- Police have arrested a 31-year-old mother and a 36-year-old father in connection with the death of their infant, who died of an overdose last year.
On Nov. 15, 2022, the Boulder City Police Department and Boulder City Fire personnel responded to a home on the 1600 block of Broadmoor Circle, where they found an unresponsive 8-month-old child. Emergency responders attempted lifesaving measures before transporting the child to St. Rose Siena Hospital, where the victim was pronounced dead.
The Clark County Coroner’s Office determined the child died as a "result of fentanyl toxicity," and he had suffered "recent methamphetamine exposure."
Police spoke with the victim’s parents, Jeffrey Terakami and Kara Dugan, who both said the child had been "exposed to a mixture of methamphetamine and fentanyl after the father had spilled a bag of fentanyl mixed with methamphetamine on their bed."
The child then allegedly crawled onto the bed following the spill.
Police said they obtained arrest warrants for the parents on charges of second-degree murder on June 15. Police noted the charge is "based upon their making available a controlled substance resulting in death."
