Calif. mother accused of torturing, abusing 7-month-old daughter to death

ADELANTO, Calif. (TCD) -- Deputies arrested a 36-year-old mother over the weekend in connection with the abuse, torture, and death of her 7-month-old daughter.
According to a news release from the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department, on Saturday, June 24, at approximately 2:10 a.m., Victor Valley Station deputies responded to a home on the 11400 block of Russet Place and found an unresponsive 7-month-old girl. Deputies performed lifesaving measures before emergency personnel transported the victim to the hospital, where she was pronounced dead at around 3:11 a.m.
The Sheriff’s Office and medical personnel reportedly determined the victim’s physical trauma was consistent with abuse. Detectives from the Sheriff’s Specialized Investigations Division — Homicide Detail then responded to the scene and assumed the case.
Deputies arrested the baby’s mother, Mayra Rodriguez-Garcia, and booked her into the High Desert Detention Center on charges of murder, torture, and child abuse causing death. She remains held without bail.
