N.C. mother, grandmother arrested after infant brought to hospital in critical condition

ROCKINGHAM COUNTY, N.C. (TCD) -- Police arrested the 32-year-old mother and 55-year-old grandmother of a 10-month-old child after she was transported to the hospital last week with critical injuries.
According to the Eden Police Department, on Tuesday, April 18, patrol officers responded to a home at 203 S. Fieldcrest Road to a report of an unconscious 10-month-old female. Rockingham County EMS personnel treated the child at the scene and transported her to University of North Carolina Health Rockingham for treatment before being transferred to Brenner’s Children’s Hospital in Winston-Salem for further evaluation.
Police said the child was in the intensive care unit in "'critical but stable' condition for over 24 hours and is still receiving medical treatment."
According to police, as a result of their investigation, officials arrested the child’s mother, Athena Peet, and her grandmother, Linda Peet, on Thursday, April 21.
The 10-month-old’s mother and grandmother were each charged with felony child abuse resulting in serious physical injury. Athena Peet’s bond was set at $25,000, while Linda Peet was given a $5,000 bond. They are scheduled to appear in Rockingham County District Court on May 4.
