COOPER COUNTY, Mo. (TCD) -- A 41-year-old woman was taken into custody after officials said she allegedly tried to attack two children while they were in a moving car traveling on a highway.
According to the Cooper County Sheriff’s Office, on Feb. 23, deputies were called to mile marker 101 on Interstate 70 regarding a potential domestic disturbance and found an adult male and two children.
Investigators learned the male, two juveniles, and a woman were driving eastbound on the highway when the woman, Jennifer Fangmann, allegedly retrieved a knife and "tried to assault the juveniles with the knife."
The male reportedly stepped in and tried to prevent Fangmann from attacking the kids. He stopped the car and tried to remove the two juveniles from the vehicle. Fangmann and the male reportedly got into a "brief struggle," but he was able to get them out safely. Fangmann fled in the car and left the three of them on the roadside. The victims sustained "minor injuries."
The Sheriff’s Office said numerous witnesses helped out.
Responding deputies remained at the scene with the male and juveniles and others searched for Fangmann. The Sheriff’s Office received reports around the same time about a car driving recklessly on the wrong side of the road. The vehicle eventually hit a concrete drain in the median, and Fangmann got out.
Deputies took her into custody without incident and transported her to a medical center for an evaluation.
According to the statement, the Cooper County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office has filed several charges against Fangmann, which include two counts of attempted murder, three counts of domestic assault, two counts of attempted abuse or neglect of a child, two counts of endangering the welfare of a child, and armed criminal action.
Her bond is set at $250,000.
