Pa. woman convicted of 'luring' estranged husband to bank and killing him on Valentine’s Day

LANCASTER COUNTY, Pa. (TCD) -- A 30-year-old woman was convicted of killing her husband at a bank on Valentine’s Day last year.

On Dec. 21, the Lancaster County District Attorney announced Judge Merrill Spahn found Danielle Bewley guilty of first-degree murder following a five-day bench trial.

On Feb. 14, 2021, at 5:30 p.m., Strasburg Police Department officers were dispatched to the PNC Bank on North Decatur Street for reports of shots fired and found a male deceased from an apparent gunshot wound.

Strasburg Police identified the victim as 27-year-old Mitchell Bewley. After the shooting, Danielle Bewley reportedly returned to her home on Locus Lane in Quarryville and engaged in a standoff with police. She was eventually taken into custody by members of the Pennsylvania State Police Special Emergency Response Team and transported to a local hospital.

According to the District Attorney’s Office, Mitchell suffered five gunshot wounds to the torso, all of which had the potential to be the fatal shot. Prosecutors argued she "shot and killed Mitchell Bewley after luring him to a PNC Bank" that Valentine’s Day.

Assistant District Attorney Christine Wilson said, "On Valentine’s Day of 2021, the defendant executed a plan and then executed the victim. She had it all planned out. It was specific premeditation. She was lying in wait for the victim to get there."

Danielle Bewley’s attorney, however, argued she shot her husband in self-defense.

After shooting her husband, Danielle Bewley reportedly FaceTimed a friend, showed them the gun, and said, "He got what he deserved."

The District Attorney’s Office said Bewley’s sentencing will "happen at a later date."
