PULASKI COUNTY, Ky. (TCD) -- A 58-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of assaulting two women and fatally shooting another person.
According to the Pulaski County Sheriff’s Office, on Saturday, July 23, at 1:05 a.m., deputies responded to Parrott Drive in an eastern part of the county for a report of an assault. When a deputy arrived at the location, a woman reportedly said she had been attacked by the suspect, John Stacy. Stacy allegedly entered the woman’s home with a gun, held her against her will at gunpoint, then assaulted her.
The Pulaski County deputy called EMS to the scene, but the woman opted to go to the hospital in her own vehicle. Deputies cleared the scene at around 3 a.m.
At 10:47 a.m. the same day, deputies responded to a shooting call on Paradise Lake Drive and found a deceased victim. Investigators reportedly determined Stacy was a person of interest in the death investigation and took him into custody on an unrelated warrant. A detective later filed for a warrant charging him with murder.
The Somerset Commonwealth Journal identified the victim who died as 58-year-old Rebecca Owens. The two women reportedly knew each other, but Stacy’s alleged motive remains unclear. Stacy reportedly spent time in jail in June, and some of his belongings were stolen from his home while he was incarcerated.
Pulaski County Detective Sergeant Cody Cundiff told the Commonwealth Journal, "He tended to believe that the people in the community knew who it was that had stolen from him and either weren’t telling him or weren’t telling him the truth."
Stacy’s home reportedly caught fire on Sunday, July 24, but detectives do not know yet if the fire was intentionally set or if it was an accident.
Pulaski County jail records show Stacy is being held on charges of first-degree burglary, first-degree assault, kidnapping, two counts of murder, and failure to appear.
