HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C. (TCD) -- Two security officers were arrested last week after allegedly trying to poison their supervisor.
According to WSAV-TV, 47-year-old Andrew Doty and 30-year-old Hunter Howard were working in the Sea Island community, a vacation area near the Atlantic Ocean. They allegedly placed eye drops into their security supervisor’s coffee maker. Another co-worker of theirs reportedly stopped the supervisor before he drank the coffee and suffered any bodily damage.
According to WSAV, an ingredient used in eye drops can potentially cause harm when ingested in high amounts. The ingredient can reportedly cause sleepiness, low blood pressure, and extreme slowing of the heart rate. When consumed via mouth, the eye drops may result in toxicity or death.
On Friday, March 18, Doty and Howard were arrested and booked into the Beaufort County Detention center, records show. They were reportedly charged with tampering with a human drug product or food item with the intent to do bodily harm to a person.
Howard and Doty were released on $5,000 bond, WSAV reports. According to WRAL-TV, Howard and Doty could face up to 20 years in prison for the felony charge.
