BUTLER COUNTY, Ohio (WXIX) -- A man has been charged after his 7-year-old pit bull dog died after being put into a chokehold, according to Sheriff Richard Jones.

The Butler County Sheriff’s Office Dog Warden responded to a report in Hamilton of a male subject who had abused his canine.

The warden found a 7-year-old pit bull named "Karmin" had been put in a chokehold by the suspect for more than three hours, resulting in the dog's death. The sheriff's office said a necropsy showed evidence of strangulation.

The warden was advised the suspect was hearing voices from the television telling him the “dog was evil.”
