MORGAN COUNTY, Ga. -- (WGCL) -- The escaped inmates who are accused of fatally shooting two corrections officers in Putnam County before fleeing the scene in a carjacked vehicle are now traveling in another stolen vehicle.
Donnie Russell, 43, and Ricky DuBose, 24, have been on the run since early Tuesday morning when they allegedly shot and killed the two corrections officers while being transferred to another facility by transport bus.
They were able to get through a locked gate and overpower two officers, one of whom was driving the transport bus. They disarmed one of the officers and fatally shot both, officials said. They then carjacked a green Honda Civic and had been traveling in that vehicle until the Oconee County Sheriff's Office confirmed that they had stolen a white 2008 Ford F-250 with the Georgia license tag of BCX5372.
The vehicle was stolen in Morgan County in the area of Seven Islands Road.
The victims have been identified as 42-year-old Christopher Monica and 58-year-old Curtis Billue. Monica had worked for the facility for nearly eight years after being hired in October of 2009. Billue was nearing his 10th anniversary with the facility after being hired in July of 2007.
The GBI says the reward for information leading to their capture has increased to $90,000.
If you have any information on the whereabouts of the suspects, you're urged to call 911.
