N.C. mom accused of starving her 10-year-old son whose decomposing body was found in home

MORRISVILLE, N.C. (TCD) -- Police arrested a woman on suspicion of murder after her young son was found dead and decomposing in her home.
According to WNCN-TV, on Wednesday, Dec. 20, Morrisville Police Department officers went to a residence on the 1100 block of Craigmeade Drive because of a report about an unresponsive 10-year-old child. When they arrived, they attempted CPR on the boy, but he was deceased.
Morrisville Police Chief Pete Acosta told WNCN the boy’s body was bruised and in rigor mortis by the time police got there.
Officers reportedly believe the boy had likely been dead for a long period of time because his body was already decomposing. Police arrested the child’s mother, 33-year-old Priyanka Tiwari, on charges of murder and negligent child abuse causing injury.
WRAL-TV reports Morrisville Police officers responded to Tiwari’s home eight times over the last year for welfare checks because family members from India kept calling.
Additionally, investigators noticed there was "little to no food" in the house, which had caused the boy to lose a lot of weight recently.
Tiwari is in custody and is being held without bond.
