Illinois man accused of torturing woman who filed domestic battery charges against him

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. (TCD) -- A 23-year-old is accused of beating and torturing a woman for two days because he wanted her to recant her statements regarding a domestic battery case against him.

According to WJBC Radio, Bloomington Police Department officers responded to the victim’s home and found her with several injuries, including bruising around her eyes and burn marks on her face. Suspect Meontay Wheeler allegedly threw the victim and kicked her in the face. She then reportedly fell on a cinder block. Wheeler allegedly tortured the woman for the next two days.

WJBC, citing court records, says Wheeler used hot wax to burn her and beat her with a hair iron. Additionally, Wheeler allegedly urinated in her mouth when she asked for water.

The Pantagraph, which also cites arrest records, reports the victim suffered injuries that appeared like she had been strangled. Wheeler was reportedly upset with the victim because there is a domestic battery case pending against him.

According to court records, Wheeler was charged with aggravated battery causing great bodily harm and torture, aggravated domestic battery, and aggravating domestic battery with strangulation. His bond is set at $1 million. Court records show he has been charged with domestic battery causing bodily harm multiple times as well as violating a protective order against him.

WJBC reports that if Wheeler posts bond, he will have GPS monitoring and be under house arrest.
