Michigan parents charged after 15-month-old found dead, 'covered head to toe in bruises'

FARMINGTON HILLS, Mich. (TCD) -- A 31-year-old man and a 30-year-old woman were arrested this week after their 15-month-old child was found dead in a motel room.

WJBK-TV reports Farmington Hills Police were dispatched at approximately 5:30 p.m. Sunday to the Motel 6 on Grand River and 10 Mile to conduct a welfare check on a child. When officers arrived, they reportedly discovered the toddler dead. The child reportedly exhibited signs of trauma.

Isaias Porras and Amanda Jajou, the child’s parents, were arrested and booked into Oakland County Jail. According to court records, Porras is charged with first-degree murder and first-degree child abuse. Jajou is charged with second-degree murder, second-degree child abuse, and accessory after the fact to a felony. Oakland County Jail records show they are both being held without bond.

The Detroit News reports police were sent to the motel because of reports of a baby crying. Jajou and Porras reportedly told officers they didn’t have a baby in the room and gave him away. The child, who WJBK identified as Isaias Daniel Porras-Jajou, was reportedly found underneath a pile of blankets.

Assistant Prosecuting Attorney Amy MacGregor said in the arraignment Isaias' body was "covered from head to toe with bruises, including hematoma to the brain," The Detroit News reports.

According to the Royal Oak Tribune, Isaias suffered from "blunt force injury" to the head and died from brain damage. MacGregor alleges Porras beat Isaias, who reportedly had seizures from the abuse, but Jajou "did nothing to assist" her child.

The Royal Oak Tribune reports Porras and Jajou had been living at the Motel 6. According to The Detroit News, the couple’s last known addresses were listed in Colorado and California and neither had a criminal history.
