SOUTH EUCLID, Ohio (TCD) -- A 50-year-old man accused of killing his 91-year-old mother in late 2021 appeared in court Tuesday, Feb. 1, and pleaded not guilty.
According to a press release from the South Euclid Police Department, on Nov. 4, at approximately 4:30 p.m., officers found Essie Mae Henry’s body near the corner of Warrensville Center and Colony roads, reportedly in a bush. Police say the Cuyahoga County Medical Examiner’s Office ruled her death a homicide, and an investigation was launched.
According to an affidavit obtained by WJW-TV, the victim’s son, Marcus Henry, was named as a suspect, and his DNA was found on the victim. He was reportedly arrested for aggravated murder.
After pleading not guilty in court on Tuesday, WJW reports that Henry’s bond was set at $1 million with 10 percent cash surety. He is reportedly not allowed to have any contact with the witnesses. If bond is made, WJW says Henry will be barred from the crime scene and ordered to surrender any passports.
The Cuyahoga County Municipal Court will reportedly take over the case.
