N.C. man convicted of murdering missing girlfriend and pretending to be her in texts to family

WAKE COUNTY, N.C. (TCD) -- A 46-year-old man was convicted of killing his girlfriend and the mother of his two children nearly three years after she was first reported missing.

According to The News & Observer, a jury took about an hour to find Brian Sluss guilty of first-degree murder involving domestic violence on Thursday, April 28. A Wake County judge sentenced Sluss to life in prison without the possibility of parole.

Prosecutors argued during the trial that Sluss killed his girlfriend Monica Moynan and got rid of her body on or around April 6, 2019. Investigators reportedly found some traces of blood on kitchen tiles on Moynan’s home.

The Holly Springs Police Department was looking into Moynan’s disappearance in July 2019 after saying she was last seen in April of that year. In October 2019, Holly Springs Police announced they were now looking at her disappearance as a death investigation.

According to WNCN-TV, Sluss reportedly pretended to be Moynan in text messages to her family and on social media for months. Sluss' mother now has custody of their two daughters.

Moynan’s body has still not been found.
