Texas man allegedly impersonated an officer to 'make people drive better'

PARKER COUNTY, Texas (TCD) -- A 42-year-old man was arrested and charged after allegedly using flashing red and blue emergency lights to falsely pull over a victim.

According to a news release from the Parker County Sheriff’s Office, on Feb. 18 at approximately 9 p.m., the department received a report of a "suspicious blue Dodge" using the emergency lights on his dashboard in an attempt to pull over another vehicle in the 1500 block of Newsom Mound Road.

The suspect, Luciano Amador Velazquez, reportedly followed the victim and tried to cut him off the road and "block his vehicle from leaving the area."

The Sheriff’s Office said they interviewed Velazquez, and he told deputies he "activated his lights when he did not agree with the victim’s driving."

Velazquez reportedly said he had used the lights before to "make people drive better."

Velazquez was arrested and charged with impersonation of a public servant, a felony offense, according to the Sheriff’s Office.

In a statement, Sheriff Russ Authier said, "The victim in this case did the right thing by immediately reporting the incident to law enforcement."

There have been three cases of people impersonating officers in the Dallas area from Jan. 14 to Feb. 3, KDFW-TV reports.
