COCHISE COUNTY, Ariz. (TCD) -- A couple was arrested last week for allegedly leaving their 11-year-old son home alone since Thanksgiving.
According to a news release from the Cochise County Sheriff’s Office, deputies performed a welfare check at a residence off Coral Lane in Elfrida after receiving a report of an unattended 11-year-old.
At the scene, deputies reportedly contacted the 11-year-old, and upon further investigation, learned that his mother, 34-year-old Melissa Green, went out of state before Thanksgiving. The Sheriff’s Office says they learned that the father, 40-year-old Bobby Jo Green, left shortly after Thanksgiving, and the juvenile was left unattended with no contact since his parents left.
According to the Sheriff’s Office, the child "had not attended school at least the prior two weeks." There was reportedly frozen food available for him to eat at home.
The Sheriff’s Office says they tried to make contact with the parents and family members but were unsuccessful. Authorities turned the boy over to Child Protective Services.
According to records, the parents were arrested and booked into the Cochise County Jail on Thursday, Dec. 29. They face child neglect charges with a bond set at $100,000 each.
