A person of interest in the case of missing 19-year-old student Miya Marcano was found dead Monday in Florida. Authorities said Armando Caballero died from an apparent suicide. Caballero was reportedly a maintenance worker in the apartment complex where Marcano lives. |

A woman was arrested in Arizona for allegedly murdering her two children in Lancaster, Calif. in December 2020. The children’s bodies were discovered when Los Angeles County Fire personnel received a gas leak call and found two decapitated kids at the residence. |

A Louisiana woman was arrested in Texas after allegedly throwing two of her children into Cross Lake, killing one and injuring the other. The deceased child was 8 months old and the injured child is 5. Police said she allegedly threw the children from one of the bridges on the lake. |

A California man was convicted of murder for striking a woman he was dating 50 times with a metal candleholder and strangling her. The prosecutor said part of William Schendel’s thumb was later found in the woman’s hair. The victim had bitten part of his finger off in an argument. |

The man who opened fire in the Capital Gazette newsroom in Annapolis, Md. in 2018 was sentenced Tuesday. “Jarrod Ramos was sentenced to five life sentences without parole plus one life sentence plus 345 years,” the State’s Attorney’s Office said. John McNamara, Rob Hiaasen, Gerald Fischman, Wendi Winters and Rebecca Smith died in the attack. Ramos was reportedly upset with the newspaper after they ran a column about him getting convicted for misdemeanor harassment in 2011. |
