OLD BRIDGE, N.J. (TCD) -- A Manalapan couple was arrested after detectives conducted a lengthy investigation into their finances and accused them of stealing almost $100,000 from a local soccer league to pay for personal expenses.
According to a statement from the Old Bridge Police Department, on July 10, a detective arrested Kathleen Murawski and Joseph Murawski on charges of theft of movable property over $75,000, conspiracy to commit theft, and fraudulent use of a credit card. The investigation into their alleged crimes spanned six months.
Kathleen Murawski reportedly formerly served as president of the Old Bridge Soccer League, while Joseph Murawski was field director.
The two allegedly stole $91,000 from the organization by withdrawing money from the soccer league’s account. Old Bridge Police allege they used the money to "fund personal purchases, including, but not limited to, expenses related to a trip to Walt Disney World and other travel, an extravagant party for their child, Amazon purchases, and utility bills for their home."
Detective Jessica Caffey reportedly began investigating after an Old Bridge Soccer League official noticed an "issue with the league’s accounts."
Joseph and Kathleen Murawski are being held in the Middlesex County Correctional Center.
