RACINE, Wis. (TCD) -- A 27-year-old woman is accused of killing her boyfriend during a fight even though she alleged she only "wanted him to get scared."
According to a statement, on Saturday, June 10, at approximately 6:30 p.m., Racine Police Department officers responded to the 900 block of Walnut Street for a stabbing report and found a 27-year-old man "laying on the sidewalk bleeding from his chest." First responders attempted lifesaving measures and transported him to a nearby hospital, where he was declared dead.
Racine Police said a woman, later identified as Adela Gomez-Zuniga, confessed to stabbing the victim. Officers took her into custody for an interview and booked her into the Racine County Jail, where she is being held on charges of first-degree intentional homicide.
The criminal complaint cited by WITI-TV alleges Gomez-Zuniga and the victim, who was not identified, started fighting because he was drinking alcohol even though he had been sober for a year. The victim allegedly blocked her from entering their house and said he thought she was cheating on him. Gomez-Zuniga made her way into the home, and they reportedly kept arguing about the purported cheating as well as who paid the bills.
WITI reports the victim allegedly pushed Gomez-Zuniga into a table, so she picked up a knife from the sink. The victim reportedly taunted her and said she wouldn’t stab him.
Gomez-Zuniga reportedly "stabbed him in the chest" and informed police she "didn’t take my pills today."
The victim fled the home, and Gomez-Zuniga reportedly followed him because she alleged he took money prior to the stabbing.
A neighbor told WITI he saw the victim outside "holding his chest, and it’s full of blood — oozing blood."
The neighbor said the victim died in his arms.
According to WITI, Gomez-Zuniga told police, "I can’t believe [the victim] is dead. That was never my intention. I wanted him to get scared."
However, while in jail, she allegedly said the victim "tried to take my money" and kill her, adding, "I hope he dies."
