S.C. mother accused of killing child, attempting to drown another

BEAUFORT COUNTY, S.C. (TCD) -- A 37-year-old mother is in custody on suspicion of killing her 6-year-old child and attempting to drown her 8-year-old child.
According to a news release from the Beaufort County Sheriff's Office, on Friday, May 19, at approximately 1:25 a.m., deputies responded to a home on Sam Doyle Drive in Saint Helena Island, South Carolina, to a report of a woman trying to drown her 8-year-old child. The victim's cry for help reportedly woke up others in the home, one of whom called 911 for help.
During a search of the home, the Sheriff's Office said deputies found a deceased child, 6-year-old Mackaya Bradley-Brun.
Investigators believe Jamie Bradley-Brun fatally drowned Mackaya and then tried to drown her other child.
The Beaufort County Coroner's Office will perform an autopsy and confirm Mackaya's cause of death.
Officials arrested Bradley-Brun, and she was booked into the Beaufort County Detention Center on a charge of murder and attempted murder.
The investigation is ongoing.
