NORFOLK, Neb. (TCD) -- A 37-year-old man was arrested for allegedly threatening to detonate a stick of dynamite while holding two women against their will inside a car.
According to the Madison County Sheriff’s Office, on May 11 at around 2 p.m., Norfolk Police dispatch received a call from someone reporting a man was warning women inside a car that he would detonate a partial stick in dynamite he had on him. The caller told dispatch they were "communicating electronically" with one of the women in the car.
Deputies from the Madison County Sheriff’s Office located the car and conducted a traffic stop at 13th Street and Maple Avenue where they were able to safely remove the women from the vehicle. Officials took the man allegedly making the threats, Kelly Red Tomahawk, into custody.
The statement said investigators searched the vehicle and found an explosive device. A technician from the Nebraska State Patrol bomb unit arrived and disposed of it. Residents in the surrounding block evacuated for safety reasons.
The explosive will be identified after testing.
News Channel Nebraska reports Nebraska State Patrol units found several knives, a glass meth pipe, and a container with suspected THC on it. Red Tomahawk faces charges of terroristic threats, false imprisonment, possession of a destructive device, possession of a controlled substance, use of a deadly weapon to commit a felony, and possession of a deadly weapon by a prohibited person.
Nebraska Department of Corrections records show Red Tomahawk was released from prison in 2017 after serving time for assault, aiding and abetting, criminal mischief, and other charges.
