Indiana man accused of fatally shooting wife allegedly asked for death penalty

PUTNAM COUNTY, Ind. (TCD) -- A 72-year-old man is in custody after allegedly fatally shooting his wife, who was found in a pool of blood.
According to WRTV-TV, on Sunday, May 14, deputies responded to the 3000 block of South County Road 550 West, where they found the victim, Nancy Rosa, deceased from apparent gunshot wounds.
The victim's husband, Joseph Rosa, told police he woke up and discovered his wife lying on the living room floor in a pool of blood, WXIN-TV reports. He reportedly said he tried to touch her, and she was "stiff as a board."
Inside the living room, officials allegedly recovered two handguns, including a .357 revolver with shell casings on the floor. Investigators reportedly located 70 weapons in the home, all of which belonged to Joseph Rosa.
According to WXIN, investigators noticed blood spatter on Rosa's hands, clothes, and shoes, and they determined he shot his wife at close range.
When interviewed by police, Rosa reportedly said he couldn't recall killing his wife, but he eventually told officials to "take me to jail." As he was being booked into the Putnam County Jail, Rosa allegedly said, "I shot my wife," and requested the death penalty.
Court records show state prosecutors charged Rosa with murder on Tuesday, May 16.
