AMES, Iowa (TCD) -- A 20-year-old linebacker for the Iowa State University football team was arrested this week for allegedly injuring a woman and raping her.
An Ames Police Department arrest log shows officers took Aidan Ralph into custody on the morning of Wednesday, May 3, on a charge of third-degree sexual assault — forcible rape.
According to the Ames Tribune, Ralph allegedly pushed a woman into some stairs at a residence on 17th Street, which caused the female to suffer a spinal fracture. Ralph reportedly would not call EMS for help even though the victim requested it. Then, he allegedly raped the woman while she was injured.
Ralph reportedly admitted to police that he hurt the victim.
WHO-TV reports the assault allegedly occurred in December and involved his girlfriend at the time. The two had reportedly been dating for about three years, and Ralph accused her of cheating. The police report cited by WHO says the victim suffered "great pain and visible swelling" after Ralph allegedly shoved her into the stairs.
According to the court documents, after getting injured, the victim reportedly took off her pants to look at her injuries, but then Ralph allegedly began to rape her. He purportedly "physically flipped [the victim] over so that she was facing away from Ralph so that he could not see her crying."
He reportedly raped her several times and tried to force her to perform oral sex, but the victim refused.
A spokesperson for the Iowa State Athletics Department told WHO the redshirt sophomore was suspended from all activities. He is still listed on the team’s online roster.
Court documents show Ralph posted $11,000 bond Thursday, May 4, and the victim filed a no-contact order.
