BUFFALO, N.Y. (TCD) -- A 27-year-old man pleaded guilty this week to charges related to the 2019 fatal stabbings of his 25-year-old girlfriend and 52-year-old mother.
According to the Erie County District Attorney’s Office, Charles Jones’ ex-girlfriend Jacquetta Lee was found deceased in her Main Street apartment bathroom on July 18, 2019, after her family reported her missing. She had been stabbed repeatedly approximately three days before officials found her.
The next month, on Friday, August 16, 2019, Buffalo Police took Jones into custody in connection with Lee’s death. The District Attorney’s Office said officials served a search warrant at his home on Jefferson Avenue as part of the investigation, where they found the remains of his mother, Alethia Atwood Williams, inside a closet. Investigators believe she had been fatally stabbed approximately two weeks before the discovery.
On June 30, 2021, Jones initially pleaded guilty to two counts of second-degree murder. However, earlier this week, the Erie County District Attorney announced that Jones pleaded guilty to two counts of first-degree manslaughter.
Jones is scheduled to be sentenced on Thursday, June 15, and faces a maximum sentence of 50 years in prison. He remains held without bail.
Erie County District Attorney John J. Flynn said, "Charles Jones, while under investigation for the brutal killing of his ex-girlfriend, committed another heinous crime by murdering his own mother. Both women were stabbed numerous times by this defendant who left their lifeless bodies in bloody crime scenes that were discovered days after their tragic deaths."
Flynn continued, "I hope that the families of both victims feel that justice has been served by this defendant pleading guilty to all charges and our prosecutors requesting that he receive the maximum sentence for committing these gruesome crimes."
