After receiving the money, Santacroce allegedly "refused to leave the bank."
Salt Lake City Police officers safely entered the bank and eventually arrested Santacroce for robbery.
According to KSL-TV, Santacroce handed the bank teller at Wells Fargo a polite note that reportedly read, "Please pardon me for doing this but this is a robbery. Please give me $1. Thank you."
The affidavit cited by KSL says Santacroce "sat down in the bank lobby and waited for police to arrive" after the teller handed him the dollar. He reportedly told other bank customers they were "lucky" he didn’t have a gun with him "because it was taking the police so long to get there."
The bank manager told police she brought the employees into a back room for safety.
Santacroce allegedly said he robbed the bank "because he wanted to get arrested and go to federal prison."
He reportedly said if he gets out of jail, he will "rob another bank and ask for more money next time trying to get the desired result of going to federal prison."
KSL reports Santacroce was arrested recently for driving under the influence.
