FORT COLLINS, Colo. (TCD) -- A man was arrested and charged earlier this week after allegedly kidnapping an elderly woman while she waited for her husband inside her vehicle.
According to a news release from the Fort Collins Police Department, on Tuesday, Feb. 21, an elderly woman was in her car while her husband was shopping, and Cesar Bugarin allegedly entered the vehicle and drove off.
Bugarin reportedly stopped the vehicle at one point, and the elderly woman was able to get out and call for help.
Police said multiple departments responded to the call, including the Fort Collins Police NET Team and Criminal Impact Unit Detectives.
According to police, "Officers and detectives located the vehicle and followed it until it stopped." Once the vehicle was stopped, officers contacted and took Bugarin into custody.
Upon further investigation, police learned Bugarin had crashed another vehicle into a small body of water near Horsetooth and Ziegler.
Bugarin was reportedly booked into the Larimer County Detention Center and charged with aggravated robbery of an at-risk adult, kidnapping, and aggravated motor vehicle theft.
Bugarin was scheduled to appear in court on Thursday, Feb. 23, and is set to appear again on March 2, records show.
