ORONO, Maine (TCD) -- A copper bear statue valued at $8,000 was reportedly stolen from a college campus just days after four males allegedly destroyed a $4,000 sign.
The University of Maine Police announced that the statue was stolen from Buchanan Alumni House, and they have been seeking the statue as well as any potential suspects since the theft was reported on Nov. 23, 2022.
A spokesperson for the university, Margaret Nagle, told the Bangor Daily News that the statue is 2 feet by 3 feet and hollow.
Campus police are offering a $500 reward to anyone who provides information leading to the identification of any suspects.
According to campus police, the theft of the bear statue happened just days after four students were seen on surveillance video damaging a $4,000 sign outside the Buchanan Alumni House on Nov. 20, 2022, at approximately 12:13 a.m. The four students have since been identified, the Bangor Daily News reports.
