PONCA CITY, Okla. (TCD) -- A man’s alleged armed robbery ended in a fumble a month after he allegedly walked into a convenience store and stole items.
According to Ponca City Police, on Dec. 4 at around 5 a.m., a man walked into a local Stop N Go carrying a small revolver. He reportedly robbed the store at gunpoint and did so wearing a face mask in the shape of a football.
On Jan. 3, Ponca Police Department officers went to a storage unit on the 900 block of North Union and found a male and female inside. Police said the male, who they identified as Jerid Dustin Smith, reportedly "hid from officers upon their arrival," while the female remained "uncooperative."
Smith was eventually located in a storage unit and was arrested on several outstanding warrants. He reportedly confessed to robbing the Stop N Go while wearing the football mask but said he did it "so he and his girlfriend could afford to pay for their storage shed."
He was booked into the Ponca City Jail on charges of obstructing an officer, bringing contraband into a jail, and first-degree robbery, as well as his warrants.
