Firefighters extinguished the blaze and reportedly discovered "charred human remains" in the backseat, which were transported to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner.
Three days later, on Sept. 30, Anne Arundel County Police said the medical examiner conducted an autopsy on the remains and determined the victim died from a gunshot wound, and the case became a homicide investigation.
On Dec. 27, police positively identified the victim as 16-year-old Marquette Knight from Washington, D.C. He would have turned 17 years old on Nov. 18.
Anne Arundel Police said there was no new information about Knight’s death, and the homicide investigation remains ongoing.
