The victim’s brother reportedly lived with the victim in the front house of the property. When he went to go check on his sister, he found her dead in the living room, the District Attorney’s Office said.
Using DNA evidence, authorities were reportedly able to link Sauberan to the fatal attack following a felony conviction in Oregon. According to the District Attorney’s Office, "Prosecutors found no evidence that the defendant was known to the victim."
Sauberan was found guilty of second-degree murder on Oct. 11.
On Tuesday, Dec. 13, Sauberan received the maximum sentence of 25 years to life before Erie County Court Judge Sheila A. DiTullio.
Erie County District Attorney John J. Flynn said, "The family of Linda Tschari has waited nearly 45 years for justice."
