LANCASTER, Pa. (TCD) -- A 38-year-old man was arrested and charged after allegedly fatally shooting his girlfriend, barricading himself inside a home, and shooting at police.
According to the Lancaster County District Attorney's Office, on Sunday, Sept. 11, East Hempfield Township Police officers responded to the 2000 block of Swarr Run Road after the suspect, Miguel Rodriguez, showed his friend the deceased victim via a video call. At the scene, Rodriguez reportedly shot toward officers, and residents of neighboring apartments were escorted out.
At approximately 2:30 a.m., Lancaster County Special Emergency Response team members arrived at the scene and were "met with gunfire from multiple weapons," the D.A.'s Office said.
Authorities reportedly tried to negotiate with Rodriguez, and he opened the apartment door, holding a rifle. According to the D.A.'s Office, no law enforcement member was injured or shot.
Rodriguez was reportedly shot by an Emergency Response team member in the arm and shoulder area. According to the D.A.'s Office, Rodriguez was taken into custody at around 6:27 a.m. after tear gas was deployed, and he exited the home.
During a search of the home, at around 10:55 a.m., authorities found multiple bullet impact points along with blood splatter. A pistol was reportedly located near the deceased victim, Nemesis Florentino, who suffered a fatal gunshot wound to the head.
According to the D.A.'s Office, authorities recovered a WhatsApp video sent by Rodriguez to a family member along with a message that read, "Hey I love you, forgive me for what I’ve done. I’m not turning myself in to the police and the police are there. Bye. Take care of my kids and all."
As of Sept. 12, the D.A.'s Office said Rodriguez was in the hospital. He reportedly faces a charge of criminal homicide and recklessly endangering another person.
