Clark County court records show Eric Holland entered the plea Tuesday, July 19, for second-degree murder with a deadly weapon for the death of 65-year-old Richard Miller.
According to KLAS-TV, Miller, who lived in a houseboat on Lake Mead, was reported missing in November. Miller and Holland are believed to have gotten into a fight, which reportedly led to Holland fatally shooting Miller. The medical examiner reportedly found a gunshot wound to Miller’s head during the autopsy.
The helicopter helped lead officers to an apartment complex on the 4200 block of West Rochelle Avenue. When they arrived, Holland allegedly "threw various items at officers in an attempt to flee," but he was ultimately apprehended. While searching the truck, which had been reportedly stolen, officers discovered human remains.
KLAS reports surveillance images show Holland buying a saw and trash bags from Home Depot, which were later found in the bed of the truck.
One crime scene analyst reportedly testified they discovered "a small body bag that had garbage bags in it" that contained hands, feet, arms, and a head. Investigators also found two coolers. The smaller one reportedly had two garbage bags, each with a leg inside, and a torso inside the bigger cooler.
