According to the Sheriff’s Office, on April 26, Caylin Monroe and Jakob Scott were arrested and charged with murder and neglect of a dependent resulting in death.
According to WFIE-TV, Monroe had been investigated in the past by the Department of Child Services due to an incident with another child. She was reportedly ordered to log feedings after the investigation.
Officials told WFIE Monroe confessed to skipping the victim’s feedings, and when Silas was quiet, she would forget about feeding him altogether. A concerned family member and friend allegedly told Monroe they thought something was wrong with the infant, but Monroe didn’t take him to the doctor.
According to the affidavit obtained by WFIE, Monroe told authorities she was afraid to bring the infant in to the doctor for medical treatment because she was worried her kids would be taken away.
In an interview, Scott allegedly confessed that the victim didn’t eat unless he cried, and Scott couldn’t recall if the child had eaten the day of his death.
The case has been submitted for review by the Warrick County Prosecutor’s Office, the Sheriff’s Office says. The couple reportedly remains held without bond.
