HONOLULU (TCD) -- A 34-year-old man has been charged with murder after police say he shot and killed an acupuncturist who previously had an affair with his wife.
Honolulu Police said in a statement 47-year-old Jon Tokuhara was found dead at Tokuhara Acupuncture and Healthcare on Jan. 13 at approximately 8 a.m. Police said he died from a gunshot wound. According to KHON-TV, police arrested Eric Thompson on Monday, Feb. 14, on charges of second-degree murder and carrying or use of a firearm in the commission of a separate felony. He was released after posting $1 million bond.
According to the criminal complaint cited by KITV-TV, the autopsy determined Tokuhara’s cause of death was a gunshot wound to the head and his manner of death was homicide. The complaint says Eric Thompson and his wife Joyce Thompson started dating in high school and later got married. Joyce reportedly started seeing Tokuhara for help relieving back pain and infertility. Joyce reportedly told a witness she had an affair and that her husband knew about it.
The complaint says Joyce and Tokuhara "spoke at length of their intimate relationship" and reportedly shared “several explicit, nude photos." Tokuhara reportedly "appeared to want a long-term relationship with Joyce and not just an affair." The two reportedly ended their affair in July 2021 and Joyce told him they should not communicate anymore.
Thompson reportedly owns 12 registered firearms in the state of Hawaii.
KHON reports Thompson plans on pleading not guilty to the charges against him.
