Louisiana woman allegedly killed mother as she tried to stop her from leaving home

IOWA, La. (TCD) -- A 22-year-old woman was arrested after allegedly killing her mother following an argument this week.
According to a press release from the Jefferson Davis Parish Sheriff’s Office, on Tuesday, Feb. 1, deputies responded to 12223 Pousson Road to a report of battery. The grandmother of the suspect had reportedly called and told authorities that she and her granddaughter Savannah Lawrence had gotten into a physical altercation earlier in the day.
According to the Sheriff’s Office, the fight continued as Lawrence reportedly began moving her belongings out of the residence. Additionally, the complainant allegedly reported that her daughter, 42-year-old April Springs, was arguing with Lawrence outside.
According to the Sheriff’s Office, Lawrence and her husband transported an injured Springs to the hospital. There was reportedly a large amount of blood on the driveway, but the complainant did not see the incident firsthand, and it was unknown where the blood came from.
Springs was pronounced dead at the hospital, the Sheriff’s Office said, and physicians said Springs suffered a severe head injury and scrapes on her body. According to the Sheriff’s Office, Calcasieu Deputies responded to the hospital, and Lawrence and her husband were detained.
Upon further investigation, the Sheriff’s Office says they learned Lawrence tried to leave the home, and Springs was fatally injured as she tried to stop Lawrence from leaving in her car.
According to the Sheriff’s Office, Lawrence was arrested and charged with manslaughter. She remains held in the Parish Jail without bond.
