INKSTER, Mich. (TCD) -- A 36-year-old mother was taken into custody this week after her two toddlers were found with severe injuries and one had stopped breathing.
According to WDIV-TV, Inkster Police performed a welfare check at a residence in the 29500 block of Grandview Street on Jan. 1 at approximately 9 a.m. Officers knocked on the door, but no one answered. They reportedly heard a child crying inside, so officers forced entry into the home.
Inkster Police allegedly located Sara Boles in the bathroom with her two children, a 3-year-old girl and 1-year-old boy, both of whom were injured. According to WDIV, officers reportedly found a knife in the bathtub. Inkster Assistant Police Chief Bill Ratliff told WJBK-TV, "They were met by a female resident of the home who became combative. They were able to get her restrained and in custody."
Ratliff explained the children had wounds from "a knife or cut." He praised responding officers who performed lifesaving measures on the children. The female child was transported immediately to an area hospital as officers attempted to revive the male child, who was not breathing, with CPR. The boy was reportedly later airlifted to Children’s Hospital in Detroit for additional treatment, WDIV reports.
According to The Detroit News, Boles is charged with two counts of assault with intent to murder, two counts of first-degree child abuse, one count of resisting arrest, and obstructing officers. Her bond is set at $100,000 cash.
