DUANESBURG, N.Y. (TCD) -- A 47-year-old man is accused of fatally stabbing his wife and 5-year-old son and attacking his 2-year-old son, who survived.
According to a news release, deputies from the Schenectady County Sheriff’s Office and troopers from the New York State Police responded to a disturbance call in Duanesburg on Dec. 1 at approximately 9:15 p.m. Officials discovered two deceased victims at the scene and said there was no ongoing threat to the public.
New York State Police identified the suspect as Nelson Patino in a subsequent news release. Patino reportedly called police and said he stabbed his family. The 5-year-old boy, Jacob Patino, died from his wounds at the home. Patino’s wife, 37-year-old Alexandria Bustamante Gomez, was transported to Albany Medical Center, where she passed away. According to New York State Police, the 2-year-old son was also taken to Albany Medical Center and is in stable condition.
Patino was arrested and charged with two counts of second-degree murder, attempted murder, and criminal possession of a weapon.
According to the Times Union, which cites court documents, Patino allegedly used a knife on his youngest son first before attacking his wife and Jacob. He reportedly used a kitchen knife on his wife. Investigators reportedly saw a trail of blood on the stairs and in the bathroom. They also found blood in the master bedroom and what is believed to be the children’s bedroom.
The Times Union reports the court issued an order of protection against Patino for the 2-year-old son.
WTEN-TV reports Schenectady County Assistant District Attorney John Carson said there is no clear motive in the case yet. Patino pleaded not guilty during his arraignment.
