Dr. Brent Blue announced in a press conference that her cause of death was strangulation and the manner of death was homicide. Blue explained only cause and manner of death are released due to a Wyoming state statute. Autopsy photographs and other material will not be released, he said.
Petito’s body was discovered Sept. 19, and Blue estimates her time of death was three to four weeks prior to that.
According to WFLA-TV, Blue said Petito’s death certificate has not been completed even though "death certificates in the state of Wyoming allow for approximate dates and a variability in those dates."
Blue reportedly said he does not think "there will be an exact date of death on the death certificate."
On Sept. 23, the FBI Denver office announced the U.S. District Court of Wyoming issued an arrest warrant for Petito’s fiancé Brian Laundrie that were "related to Mr. Laundrie’s activities following the death of Gabrielle Petito."
WFLA reports charges against Laundrie include "use of unauthorized access devices" and using a Capital One Bank debit card "knowingly and with intent to defraud."
Laundrie was named a person of interest in the case, but he has not been seen since mid-September. Authorities have been searching for him in Florida, but he remains missing.
