Man pleads guilty in murder-for-hire plot to kill victim in statutory sodomy case

SEDALIA, Mo. (TCD) -- A 57-year-old man pleaded guilty in federal court Tuesday to trying to hire a hitman to kill the victim in a statutory sodomy case.
The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Western District of Missouri announced Jon Mark Wilson admitted to the use of interstate facilities in the commission of murder for hire. The statement said the interstate facilities used included a cell phone and crossing state lines.
Wilson reportedly pleaded guilty to paying an undercover Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives agent $2,000 to kill the alleged victim in a separate case. According to the U.S. Attorney’s Office statement, Wilson was charged with two counts of first-degree statutory sodomy in Pettis County, Missouri. The case is still pending.
In January 2019, Wilson reportedly reached out to someone to hire them for the hit against the unnamed target. That person reportedly reached out to authorities and set up a meeting with Wilson and the undercover agent. Wilson reportedly agreed to hire the undercover agent to kill the victim.
According to the U.S. Attorney’s Office, Wilson arranged to meet with the undercover agent on January 22, 2019, and drove from Sedalia to Kansas City, Kansas. Wilson paid the agent $2,000 and reportedly said he would pay another $5,000 after the murder. Wilson reportedly handed a photo of the intended victim to the undercover agent and went into a store to buy shotgun shells.
Wilson was then apprehended by a Missouri State Patrol highway trooper.
The U.S. Attorney’s Office says Wilson could face up to 10 years in prison without parole.
According to Missouri court records, Wilson is accused of having sexual intercourse with someone under the age of 14.
