Polk County Sheriff’s Office deputies reportedly conducted a well-being check at the residence Robinson shared with his girlfriend on U.S. 98 North in unincorporated Polk County. When deputies arrived at Robinson’s RV, Robinson reportedly gave them a fake name and birthday. Deputies, however, had reportedly looked at a photo of Robinson before the welfare check.
According to the statement, a deputy started handcuffing Robinson but was then "violently attacked" by him. Robinson allegedly stole the deputy’s Taser and radio and tried to choke him. Two bystanders reportedly witnessed the struggle and assisted in detaining the suspect.
Additional deputies reportedly responded on scene and observed two chairs and a table atop a pallet near the RV’s door. The pallet reportedly had "freshly distributed dirt" on it. Deputies reportedly located the victim under the pallet and the Polk County Sheriff’s Office Homicide Unit and Crime Scene Unit arrived to investigate further.
Robinson was taken into custody and charged with first-degree murder, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, battery on a law enforcement officer, two counts of tampering with evidence, resisting with violence, depriving an officer with means of communication/protection, and giving false identification to a law enforcement officer.
The Polk County Sheriff’s Office said Robinson has been in prison in Florida four times and was most recently released in January. He also has a criminal record in Illinois, Delaware, North Carolina, and Mississippi.
