MONO COUNTY, Calif. (TCD) -- A 47-year-old man was arrested Friday in connection to the death of a woman whose body was found in a shallow grave in 2003.
The Mono County District Attorney’s Office released a statement announcing Diego Santiago Hernandez-Antonia’s arrest. According to the statement, a shallow grave was discovered near Shady Rest Park in Mammoth Lakes, California, in May 2003. Investigators determined at the time the remains in the grave belonged to a woman in her 30s to 40s of Native American descent from the southern region of Mexico.
According to the Mono County District Attorney’s Office, new DNA technology allowed investigators to identify the victim as Isabel Sanchez Bernal. She was 30 at the time of her death and was from Puebla, Mexico. Hernandez-Antonia was taken into custody and booked into the Mono County Jail. He was being held on a no-bail arrest warrant.
The District Attorney’s Office did not specify the connection between Sanchez and Hernandez-Antonia or how he was allegedly involved in her death.
