Victim’s extremities removed, body burned after shotgun blast to head; employee arrested

LEBANON, Mo. (TCD) --

Deputies arrested a man in Missouri Wednesday for allegedly killing his boss, dismembering him, and attempting to burn the body parts.

The Laclede County Sheriff's Office said Thursday Shane Norman, 30, was taken into custody and charged with first-degree murder in the November death of Nathan Young, 33.

The sheriff's office said Young's body was discovered on November 6, 2020, in a creek bed off Kinfolk Road.

Norman shot Young in the back of the head with a shotgun, the sheriff's office alleges.

Young's hands, feet and head had been removed from his body. Deputies allege Norman  attempted to burn the body.

Norman reportedly worked for Young at his welding business. They were "acquaintances," according to the sheriff's office.

Shane Norman, an Eldridge resident, was on probation at the time of the murder, the sheriff's office said, but did not elaborate.

KYTV-TV reports the Laclede County Coroner confirmed Young's cause of death was a gunshot wound to the head.

Sheriff Millsap said the shotgun Norman is alleged to have used has not been located, according to KYTV.

"There was a tattoo that was still vaguely showing. We had a missing person from that week and we were able to figure out the tattoo may have belonged to [Young] and that’s how we really started with the investigation," Millsap told KYTV.

A friend of Young's told deputies they had seen Norman driving around town in Young's truck.

Deputies searched the truck and reportedly found a saw with no blade, as well as what appeared to be muscle, fat, hair follicles and blood, KYTV reports. DNA found on the saw in the truck matched Young's.

Sheriff Millsap said Norman had not been cooperating with the investigation.

Shane Norman was held in the Laclede County Jail without bond.
