Newborn baby found dead in Brooklyn dumpster; mom arrested 02/19/2021 3:18 pm PST Comments File BROOKLYN, NEW YORK CITY (TCD) -- A mother in the Coney Island neighborhood of Brooklyn was arrested after her baby was found in a nearby dumpster. WPIX-TV reported that 27-year-old Jahmika Small was taken into custody Thursday evening and charged with reckless endangerment and acting in a manner injurious to children under 17. According to WPIX, officers received a call at around 4:50 p.m. Wednesday from Small saying she gave birth but could not find the newborn. Small then indicated that the baby was in a dumpster. Police reportedly then called EMS, who found the baby unresponsive in a bag in the garbage near West 27th Street and Mermaid Avenue. The infant was pronounced dead at the scene. Police reportedly believe the baby had been in there since February 12. A cause of death has not yet been announced.
