SEABECK, Wash. (KCPQ) -- Detectives arrested a Washington man on Tuesday for the sexual assault and murder of his 61-year-old sister.
Kitsap County Sheriff’s deputies responded to a call at a home in Central Kitsap after the woman was found unconscious and unresponsive on Sunday night. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
A Tuesday autopsy determined the woman died due to strangulation and asphyxiation from drowning by homicide, according to the county’s forensic pathologist.
Sheriff’s detectives served a search warrant at the location and reportedly found evidence indicating sexual assault.
The victim's brother, Michael Andrew Battersby, 51, was arrested and charged with first-degree murder and second-degree rape. A booking photo was not immediately released.
